PATTERN


Supplies:
•  Lion Brand medium worsted weight yarn

• Crochet hook size H-8 (5.0 mm)
• Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Size: 3-6 Months
Magic Ring, Chain 2, 9 DC in magic ring, join to first DC, ch 2
Round 2: 2 DC in each around, join to first DC, ch 2 (18 DC)
Round 3: 2 DC, DC in next, repeat around, join, ch 2 (27 DC)
Round 4: 2 DC, DC in next 2, repeat around, join, ch 2 (36 DC)
Round 5: 2 DC, DC in next 3, repeat around, join, ch 2 (45 DC)
Round 6: DC around (45 DC)
Change color, join and ch 2
Round 7-10: DC around (45 DC)
do not fasten off, begin on first earflap as written below for this size

BOBBLE LAMB HAT

Size 3-6 Months:
Magic Ring, chain 2, 8 HDC in magic ring, join to first HDC, chain 2 (8 HDC)
Round 2: HDC and then Bobble in first stitch and in each stitch around, join, chain 2 (8 HDC + 8 Bobble = 16)
Round 3: 2 HDC in each stitch around, join, chain 2 (32 HDC)
Round 4: HDC in first stitch, Bobble in next stitch, repeat around, join, chain 2 (16 HDC + 16 Bobble = 32)
Round 5: 2 HDC in first stitch, HDC in next 7, repeat around, join, chain 2 (36 HDC)
Round 6: HDC in first stitch, Bobble in next stitch, repeat around, join, chain 2 (18 HDC + 18 Bobble = 36)
Round 7: HDC in each stitch around, join, chain 2 (36 HDC)
Round 8-11: Repeat round 6 and 7 two more times, then begin on first earflap as written below.


Earflaps for 0-6 months:
Earflap 1: 
Chain 1, SC in next 8, chain 1, turn
Row 2: SC decrease, SC in next 4, SC decrease, chain 1, turn
Row 3: SC across (6 SC)
Row 4: SC decrease, SC in next 2, SC decrease, chain 1, turn
Row 5: SC across ( 4 SC)
Row 6: Make 2 SC decreases, chain 1, turn
Row 7: SC decrease, fasten off, weave in ends

Second earflap placement: Fold hat in half leaving slightly more stitches in the front of the hat than the back. Place the second earflap to line up with the first earflap (Refer to earflap placement from the pictures available at the end of my 
puppy hat pattern).

Earflap 2:
Join yarn, chain 1, SC in next 8, chain 1, turn
Row 2: SC decrease, SC in next 4, SC decrease, chain 1, turn
Row 3: SC across (6 SC)
Row 4: SC decrease, SC in next 2, SC decrease, chain 1, turn
Row 5: SC across ( 4 SC)
Row 6: Make 2 SC decreases, chain 1, turn
Row 7: SC decrease, and continue to SC around hat and earflaps, when you get to the top of each earflap: chain 40 (or as long/short as you wish), slip stitch in 2nd chain from hook and the rest of the way down the chain. Continue to SC around the hat and fasten off when you get the entire way around.

Lamb Ears Pattern:

Outer Ear: (Make 2)
Chain 8, HDC in second chain from hook and in the next 6, make 2 HDC in last chain
now work your way up the other side of the chain with HDC's (7 HDC), join to first HDC, Chain 2
Round 2: 2 DC in the first 3 stitches, 2 HDC in next stitch, 2 SC in the next 8, 2 HDC in next stitch, 2 DC in last 3, join, fasten off leaving long tail to sew ear onto hat.

Inner Ear: (Make 2)
Chain 6, SC in second chain from hook and in the next 4, make 2 SC in last chain
now work your way up the other side of the chain with SC's (5 SC), join to first SC, chain 2
Round 2: 2 DC in the first 2 stitches, 2 HDC in next stitch, 2 SC in next 6, 2 HDC in next stitch, 2 DC in last two stitches, join, fasten off leaving long tail to sew inner ear inside the outer ear.

After you sew the inner ear into the outer ear, pinch the end together and sew some of it shut before you sew it onto the hat.

DOUBLE CROCHET SIMPLE BEANIE WITH BRIM

Crochet Hook: J/10 or 6 mm hook
Yarn Weight: (3) Light/DK (21-24 stitches to 4 inches)


MATERIALS:
  • Modern Baby by Lion Brand in Red: approx 86 yards (you can make two hats with every skein)
  • 6.0mm (J) crochet hook, or hook needed to obtain gauge
  • needle to weave in ends
SIZE:
11” circumference 4¾” tall without brim
5¾” tall with fold up brim (1”)
GAUGE:
3 rounds = 3¼

STITCH GUIDE
ch(s): chain(s)
sc: single crochet
dc: double crochet
st(s): stitch(es)
NOTES
Ch3 counts as first dc in first 10 rounds.
Slip stitch into the top of the Ch - 3 to join each round, unless otherwise noted.
PATTERN:
Round 1: Create a magic circle. Ch3 and 11dc in the magic circle OR ch4 and 11dc in the 3rd ch from hook. <12>
Round 2: Ch3 and 1dc in the first st. 2dc in every st around. <24>
Round 3:  Ch3. 2dc in the next st. *1dc in the next st. 2dc in the next st. Repeat from * around. <36> Circle should measure 3¼”
Rounds 4-10: Ch3. 1dc in every st around. <36>

FLIPPY FLOPPY EARFLAP HAT- NEWBORN


BASIC PIXIE HAT- NEWBORN TO 3 MONTHS





Worsted weight yarn
Size l hook

Instructions (0-3 months)

ch 41
Row 1:  sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across (40 sc)
Row 2:  ch 3 (counts as first dc, now and throughout), dc in next stitch andeach stitch across (40dc)
Row 3:  ch 1, sc in each stitch across (40 sc)
Row 4:  ch 3, dc in next stitch and each stitch across (40 dc)
Row5-18:  Repeat rows 3 and 4
Round 19: Fold bonnet in half, with ribbed edging toward the frnt of the bonnet, and sc on first row touching at the back of the bonnet,  Join with slst into center stitch of the initial sc row at the fold of the bonnet.  Sc in each sc across, going through both layers of the bonnet to stitch it closed.  Then sc across the ends of the rows on one layer of the bonnet, across the front of the bonnet, and then across the ends of the rows on the other side of the bonnet.  Join with slst to first sc of edging scs. Finish off.

Cut six 36" lengths of yarn fo reach side of the bonnet. Pull lengths halfway through the botton corner of the bonnet, and braid, Tie a know in the end to secure the braid and trim the ends as desired.

COLOR-BAND PREEMIE BABY HAT



Materials:
3.75mm (F) or 4.0mm (G) crochet hook
2 colors of worsted weight (or I used 2 strands of DK in the example above)
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.

Abbreviations (US Terms):
ch: chain
sl st: slip stitch
dc: double crochet
sc: single crochet






Instructions:
Begin: With Color A, Ch 4, join with sl st to form a ring.
Round 1: 3ch (counts as 1 dc here), 11 dc into ring, join with a sl st into 3rd ch at beginning of round. (12sts)
Round 2: 3ch), 1 dc in the same st as 3ch, then 2 dc in each st to end, join with a sl st into 3rd ch at beginning of round. (24sts)
Round 3: 2ch (this is a filler to minimize the seam and is done throughout the pattern and does not count as a stitch), 1 dc in the same st as 2ch, 1 dc in next st, *2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st, repeat from * to end, join with a sl st into top of 1st dc a beginning of round. (36sts)
Round 4: 2ch, 1 dc in the same st as 2ch, 1 dc into each st to end. join with a sl st into top of 1st dc a beginning of round. (36 sts)
Round 5: With Color B, 2ch (does not count as a st), 1 dc into each st to end, join with a sl st into top of 1st dc a beginning of round. (36 sts)
Round 6: With Color A, 2ch (does not count as a st), 1 dc in base of 2ch,  1ch, *skip 1 st, 1 dc in next st, 1ch, repeat from * to end, join with a sl st in first dc at beginning of round.
Round 7: With Color B, 2ch (does not count as a st), 1 dc in base of 2ch, 2dc into the same ch1 space, *2 dc into next 1ch space, repeat from * to end, join with sl st first dc at beginning of round.
Round 8: With Color A, 2ch (does not count as a st), 1 dc in the same st as 2ch, 1 dc into each st to end, join with a sl st into first dc at beginning of round. Finish Off. Weave in ends.


For newborns, simply add 1 more increase row to the preemie pattern and/or increase your hook size.

I used H hook, 4 ply yarn and mistakenly hdc the first 3-4 rows and then switched to dc added a row prior to the color change.  Also, sc the finish.  

For the pix below, I followed the instructions exactly for the preemie size. Finished measures 5.5 " across base and 4.5 " ht - crown to base.  Way too small for my purposes.

R5) *hdc in front lop of next st, hdc in back look of next st* repeat from * around
Repeat R5 until piece measures 6.5 inches from crown of hat

I added sc border in white.
